Top 3 Benefits Of Having A Hidden Storage Bookshelf
My daughter Riley LOVES to read, and with that comes a hoard of books!
But where does one put all these books? The floor mostly; she ran out of shelf space on her regular store bought shelf. So what did I do? I built her dream bookshelf with secret compartments and a hidden desk space. Today I'll be telling my TOP 3 reasons why YOU should invest in one too!

1. Hidden Storage.
Hidden, yet functional storage space was a big thing for us. We wanted a bookshelf that had a hidden door and could easily act doubly as a closet for shoes, arts and crafts, jewelry, and whatever else we didn't want to have displayed all the time, this was a great option to keep her room cleaner. Less is more, and this definitely leaves a lot more floor space and easily hides any visual clutter.

2. Maximizing Small Space.
A hidden compartment bookshelf is also wonderful for optimizing space in your rooms. For example, ours has a built-in desk so that when it's opened it's the primary focal point, but when it's closed nobody even knows it's there! This is an absolutely great way of hiding usable everyday necessities in plain sight. I also highly recommend built-in cabinetry and custom cabinets, simply because they often give a finished and seamless look. Gives the whole thing a little bit of a next level vibe!

3. Uniqueness.
How many people do you know that have a secret compartment built-in bookshelf? I bet not many. We didn't do this here, but you could most definitely make your bookshelf lead into a totally different room (like we did in this video) or even add a rolling ladder! We did however, add a hidden latch by screwing a book into one of each of the doors and turning it into a handle. At first glance you'd never even suspect it! I also made sure to have adjustable shelving so that if you wanted to add a larger book or even some decor you can easily accommodate for it.

We built our bookcase to perfectly fit the room and accommodate the needs of Riley so she would be able to use it to the fullest extent; with a fold-down desk, hidden AND open shelving to display all her books and home decor, in not one, but THREE secret doors.
